How to buy a good salmon?

How long to cook your salmon?
As per FDA, if the internal temperature of salmon is 145°, salmon is well cooked. However, if you do not have the thermometer to check, you can simply go for the fork method. You need to just use a fork and see if it easily flakes into the salmon. Make sure to check the thickest part of the fillet as it takes time to cook.
5 simple Methods to cook Salmon
- Broiling: This is one of the easy and handy ways to cook. Preheat your broiler to high and place an oven rack in the oven. Make sure to keep it in the top third rack of your oven so when you place the salmon it is within 5 inches of distance from the coils of your broiler.
Now simply place the Salmon over aluminum foil or parchment paper and finally season it with pepper and salt. You can also add your favorite seasoning. Broil for 5 to 8 minutes depending on your taste. Check the doneness of salmon via fork.
- Bake: Baking is another super easy technique to cook your salmon. Preheat the oven to 350 F and place a large baking sheet with foil. Bake your skin-side-down for 12 to 15 minutes, or until pink and opaque. You can also season it with garlic, honey, and thyme as per your taste.
Pan-fry: Do you remember the crispy golden crust fish food from the restaurant? You can now cook it at home and enjoy your salmon.
Heat the nonstick or cast-iron skillet over a medium-high flame and grease the pan with olive oil or butter or any vegetable oil. Place the salmon fillets with skin side-up and cook until they easily release from your pan with the spatula. Flip when the crust is fully formed. This might take approx. 6 minutes. After flipping, cook for another 4 minutes.
Poach: If you love moist salmon, poaching is the easy way. Initially season the salmon with spices on both sides. Boil one cup of water and one cup of dry white wine in a large skillet and then add salmon. After cooking for about 5 to 10 min, remove the salmon carefully.
Grill: Do you like grilling when the weather is nice outside? Then this method is for you. Initially season your salmon or buy pre-marinated salmon from the nearby Fraserview meat shops.
Heat up the grill over medium-high heat, and grease the grates as this step would make flipping easy. Place salmon skin-side down and cook for about 6 to 8 mins or until the skin releases easily from the grill. Flip and cook the other side too. One can also include veggies and flavored components.
